Gradius 2 nes music soundtrack playlist4/10/2023 ![]() ![]() There’s the sound of your engine, other car engines, car crashes, voiceover, ambient effects, and other miscellaneous things. Racing games have multiple sounds that must be playing pretty much at all times. Every sound effect needs its own sound channel on these older devices. Yes, plenty of other arcades had been using BGM tracks now for years, but let’s not forget how difficult it would be to do this for a racing game with the limited hardware. The track is also, as the cool kids say, a banger. There is only one level BGM for the entire game. Even after all this development, there was still one thing missing: music tracks while you drive. ![]() Racing games have been around for a decade now. Nintendo may not be the first game company, but it’s the first one your mom knows. As far as I was concerned as a kid in the 90s, gaming sprung up fully formed from the ground with the NES and Super Mario Bros. Nintendo would go on to dominate the video game industry so hard that, unless you were really into games during that time or are a historian of them now, you know almost nothing about gaming before this year. It appeared at the twilight of 1985, to limited audiences. Only one American console developer continued to make games and consoles after 1983 - Atari - and it never had any significant impact on the market ever again.Įnter the Famicom, rebranded as the Nintendo Entertainment System. Seriously, there were about a dozen competing consoles in 1981-1982. There were many reasons for this crash, one of them being the severe glut of consoles and absolute garbage-fire games released for them. Despite the name, this crash was localized in the West (mostly the US) and only to console games. And while the Famicom sold well enough, it did not have the world-shattering popularity it is known for now until it came over here.Īt the time, the Western world of video gaming was still recovering from the great video game crash of 1983. Two games have already been on this list: Ice Climber and Balloon Fight. In Japan it was called the Famicom, short for Family Computer, released in 1983. I don’t think I can really talk about this year without bringing up how Nintendo swooped in to dominate the console market for the rest of the decade. But the big event that towers over the rest is the release of the NES in the West.
